The Ventana border is inspired by the Tec Nos Pos Navajo weavings. Those weavings were heavily influenced by the oriental prayer rugs that were brought to the Navajo peoples by the early 20th century traders. The border on this piece is actually abstract maiz filtered the more formal oriental weaving tradition. The field is left open to highlight the varying tones of the natural churro wool.
